Discount to young drivers participating in pay how you drive scheme

GreenRoad and Admiral are offering select UK councils an incentive programme that rewards young drivers who drive safely with reduced insurance premiums and the ability to earn cash vouchers when they drive in a safe manner. Car dealers unable to actively sell PPI within seven days of selling a vehicle on finance

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) warns that car dealers are unable to provide PPI at the same time as finance packages sold to their customers, because of new restrictions on the sale of payment protection insurance (PPI). The Competition Commission has announced that in order to address a perceived lack of competition in the PPI market, they are to restrict the sale of PPI products by loan providers and retailers who provide loans. Sale of single premium PPI is to be banned

The Competition Commission (CC) has published its final report into the Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) market. Commenting on the Competition Commission's final report into PPI, Ian Williams, director of communications at moneysupermarket.com, said: "As a product there is nothing fundamentally wrong with payment protection insurance; indeed ABI stats recently showed a 118 per cent increase in unemployment claims on PPI policies demonstrating how the insurance can protect borrowers. Department for Transport cracks down on uninsured drivers

Latest estimates are that around 6.5% (around 2 million) of GB motorists drive uninsured. The penalty for driving without insurance is a maximum fine of £5,000 and 6-8 penalty points. Around 300,000 offenders are convicted for uninsured driving every year. Uninsured driving adds around £30 a year to every motorist's insurance premium - amounting to more than £400m a year in additional premiums.
