Good quality pet insurance does not need to be expensive

It is estimated that every year, insurers settle some 25,800 pet insurance claims, worth around £4.92 million, linked to lacerations, and a number of these will be caused by chasing and catching sticks. This can cause scratches or cuts to the skin or damage the lining of the mouth, which can lead to serious illnesses such as septicaemia, due to the foreign bacteria carried on sticks. In addition to this, dogs playing in ponds can be exposed to poisonous algae which can lead to vomiting and diarrhoea. Analysis of Sainsbury's Pet Insurance claims data indicates that our four legged friend... [more]

Carole Nash was ranked as the UK’s 38th biggest UK insurance broker in August 2009 and employs over 300 staff in the UK and Ireland. It provides insurance for some 300,000 classic, vintage, modern, custom and off road motorcycles – around 20 percent of all licensed machines. It is also a leading player in the classic car sector. Dramatic drop in volume and value of insurance claims

The launch of the Sainsbury’s Home Insurance Claims Index, which tracks the volume and value of claims on a six monthly basis, suggests that insurers received a staggering 527,000 home insurance claims during the first half of 2008, but this fell to 373,000 for the same period in 2009. Furthermore, the average size of claim during these two periods was £918 and £735 respectively. The Index reveals that the main reason for the huge difference in the number and value of home insurance claims during these two periods was that last year there was a lot more damage caused by storms. Car insurers increase prices for the innocent victim of a smash nearly as much as they do for drivers who caused it

An Auto Express investigation has revealed that some cover providers increase prices for the innocent victim of a smash nearly as much as they do for drivers who caused one. So roadside arguments over who caused a crash may be pointless – as your insurance premium could rise by virtually the same amount either way. Auto Express compared quotes from five major insurers – Admiral, Aviva, Churchill, Direct Line and Tesco – and looked at the difference in premiums between a hypothetical driver who either was, or wasn’t, at fault in a road accident. In one case, a motorist who caused a crash had... [more]

Specialist insurers for women and older drivers do not always provide the best value option for motorists

According to research from moneysupermarket.com, a 30 year old woman driving a Ford Focus who opts for a women-only brand will pay an average £622 for annual cover, compared to £388 on average from traditional providers – an increase of 60 per cent. Female motorists opting for Diamond could find themselves paying £780 a year – an increase of £392. Andy Leadbetter, managing director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: “Specialist insurers such as Sheilas’ Wheels and Diamond may appear to be a better value alternative for women - catering specifically for their motoring needs. Our re... [more]
